Cissus erosa is widely distributed in the Neotropics from Mexico to southeastern Brazil, and in the Caribbean. It is found at edges of humid primary and secondary forests, savannas, riverine habitats, and abandoned agricultural lands; up to 1,850 m. This is a woody climbing vine (liana) with numerous tendrils, up to 18 m long. Leaves are trifoliate, glabrous or pubescent; leaflets lanceolate, obovate, or rhomboid, with serrated margins. Inflorescence is umbel-like, bright red, 6-31 cm long. Flowers are small (4-5 mm), with cupular calyx and 4 petals (red externally, orange internally). Fruit is a grape-like black berry, up to 10 mm in diameter.
